To all visitors to my DA page, I now have a website devoted to the study of anime, manga and media subculture. It started last week, and I'm building content so far. The url is [link] . Drop by, share your thoughts.
SO I went to see Disturbed last night. They are an amazing live band, truly amazing. It was the first show I;ve been to in, well, ever, where they played every song I was hoping for, even weird little tunes like Liberate and Voices. And to make it best, they closed with Stricken and Down With The Sickness, back to back, double encore, kick so much arse it hurts. They are worth every penny if you want to see them live.
I also typed up another Train Story. Yes, I still have them around, I needed this one done because it was both A: the precursor to Avalon and B: because I actually plan to write more. Eventually. After i finish ch. 17 of Avalon and type up Sister Dragons. Eventually.
I've had a lot of free time to read lately. On the train, in school, at night when i'm tired. So in light of that, I've compiled a list of books I've read lately that I think everyone should read. Some of these gave me my inspiration back, others were just wonderful diversions from life.
-Inheritance (Eragon and Eldest). Wonderfully written, though a bit much like Star Wars.
-Green Rider/First Rider's Call. Second book is a bit slower, but the first is truly amazing. I've read it about 13 times so far.
-Great Tree of Avalon. Deep mythology, enjoyable prose.
-Stardust. The perfect adult fairy tale.
-The Neverending Story. Took me 24 years to read it, but worth the wait.
-Summer Country. A good Celtic fantasy, we all know how hard those are to find.
-Meadowland. Historical novel about the discovery of America by the Vikings.
-Charmed Sphere. Wished it was longer at times.
-Years of Rice and Salt. What if the plague wiped out Europe and Christianty?
that's my reading list of the past few months. I also read some old world myth like The Mabinogion, Beowulf, The Iliad, The Volsungs and The Eyrbiggja, which gave me some good ideas for Avalon.
For a guy who used to go to maybe 24 shows a year, this has been a horrible drought. By my count I've been to 4 all year. Granted they were good shows, the Cohhed one was free and amazing, but still, only 4 shows? COuld my love of music be slipping. Doubtful, more like I couldn't afford them, and there was nobody good playing.
Well, I went to Nintendo Fusion Tuesday, and while it may be my last show of the year, it was well worth it. Though I like The Starting Line less and less each time I see them, it was well worth the money just to see Motion City Soundtrack and Fallout Boy. Especially Fallout Boy, who played 2 sets and just blew me away. It almost made me forget i was surrounded by kids maybe 10 years younger than me (tho I met a few guys my age and older). The games were ok, I scored a free issue of Blender and some swag from Nintendo, but FOB and MCS were what made me glad I spent $25 on the show. See FOB if you can, they're worth it.
And I'm up to chapter 15 on Avalon, and I've scripted out the next 10 or so chapters, so if I get time I'll see about typing them up, but I'm sure nobody's getting their hopes up. Best just read them when I publish the book sometime in the next 2 years I hope.
News: Vampire Game ended to much applause from my players, they saved the world and most went on to final rewards. Now I'm done running things until January, if I ever run another game again.
I'm taking kickboxing now, i need a way to lose weight and still function as a person, so I signed up at a school near my house that offers Muay Thai, Jun Fan/JKD and western boxing concepts, and have been having fun at it.
I'm headed back for graduate classes in the fall, until I make my final decision on whether or not to go to Canada for my masters. Until then, enjoy one last semester at my alma mater.
I read Harry Potter in 2 days and am eagerly awaiting the final book, where Ms Rowling FINALLY bows to fantasy pressure and writes an epic quest. Took you long enough, JK, to do it.
My new obsession is Fall Out Boy. Nothing new or that remarkable, but damn can they play.
And i might finish my latest story this week. Itg took me forever to come up with a good concept to end it, so I hope to god I finish it and soon.
That's all, maybe I'll come back in a month or so and write something else, provided I have the time and all that. Been extremely busy and all.
